Hearing Tests in Rochdale
with Better Hearing Clinic at the JH Fisher Opticians, Heywood
One in six adult Brits have some form of hearing loss, but most people with these issues don’t realise just how simple it can be to regain full clarity. Better Hearing Clinic is a professional audiology service which provides hearing tests right here in Rochdale.
Based at JH Fisher Opticians in Heywood, we can diagnose and successfully treat a wide range of hearing problems. Formed in 2016 by Bernard Paice, we can offer you more personal care and attention than any of the large national chains.
What Happens at a Hearing Test?
Our initial consultation is complementary and typically lasts for around 20 minutes and is designed to assess the range of frequencies your ears can pick up. The first part consists of a series of sounds played through noise-cancelling headphones, which gives us a good idea of your overall levels of hearing loss. The second stage makes a closer examination of your inner ears using a modern video microscope camera and can reveal the extent of any ear wax or even damage to the ear canal or ear drum.
This hearing screening procedure is comfortable and completely painless.
The results will be discussed with you, and we will offer impartial advice on the best course of action to take. This could potentially involve a referral to your GP, an ENT specialist, an ear wax removal session, or a more in-depth hearing test which can be used to accurately diagnose any underlying issues.
Will I Need Hearing Aids?
Hearing aids aren’t suitable to treat all forms of hearing loss – a build up of ear wax, for instance – but the technology behind them has improved beyond all recognition in the past twenty years.
Rather than the bulky beige ones which sat behind the ear that you may remember from years gone by, today’s modern digital hearing aids are designed with discretion in mind. The smallest types are often practically invisible. Hearing aids can improve quality of life immeasurably, and as independent audiologists, we can offer you a full range of products at hugely competitive prices. We never go for the hard sell, and only ever recommend the most appropriate device for your needs.
Digital hearing aids are really easy to use and maintain, and as well as giving a detailed demonstration of how to get the most out of your model, we will set it up so that it sounds and fits perfectly.
As well as providing hearing screening, we offer a wide spectrum of audiology services.
Ear Wax Removal
A common cause of hearing loss is the build up of ear wax. This is a combination of serum (the wax) and skin debris that block sound waves from making their way efficiently to the eardrum.
Comprehensive Hearing Tests
If your initial exploratory test has unearthed any issues, a more in-depth audiogram consultation can precisely pinpoint the range of frequencies you are able to hear and enable us to make a more accurate suggestion on the best course of treatment.
Tinnitus can be a debilitating condition, and while there is currently no cure for it, there are techniques which can help ease the symptoms. Your first tinnitus management session is completely free, and we have received full training from the British Tinnitus Association.
Perfect for musicians and workers in loud environments, we have a superb range of devices to help protect your hearing from excessive noise.
Our services are available by appointment on Monday afternoons, Wednesdays and Thursdays at JH Fisher Opticians, 2 Market Place, Heywood, OL10 4NL. If you have mobility issues, we can even visit you and conduct a full hearing assessment from the comfort of your own home.
